Belated Christmas Knitting

Belated Christmas Knitting

I have almost finished knitting my planned Christmas (belated now) gifts for my friend B. and her family. I have finished and blocked the lap blanklets for her two daughters. I used the Hourglass Throw pattern by Anne Hanson for each but I knit it with my BFL DK as I wanted something a bit smaller. I used 4 skeins with 1 less repeat wide for the orange one (colourway – Orange Julius) for the younger girl. I used 5 skeins for the purple/blue one (colourway – Huckleberry) and did the number of repeats stated in the pattern for the older girl which resulted in a wider blanklet but only slighter longer in length. This is a fun pattern to knit and I love how it looks after blocking (see closeup picture at the top on the left). I also finished the Jane Bennet socks for B.’s Mom using my Merino Fingering in my Blue Haze colourway. I love how the twisted stitch pattern looks using this yarn with its tight twist. My sparkly sock yarn has the same tight twist. I just need to finish the Kandahar socks for B. and I can mail the parcel off to my friend hopefully before the end of January. Here is a in-progress picture of the first sock so far. I am using my Cash Sock yarn in the Stormy colourway. My note to myself is that this year, I need to start my Christmas knitting a lot...

Lavender Fields Shawl Kit

Lavender Fields Shawl Kit

My Mom bought this Lavender Fields Shawl Kit (picture on the right) from me in early June. The kit contained the Lavender Fields Shawl pattern by Natalie Servant, 1 skein of my BFL/Silk Select Lace in the Persian Violets colourway and 1 grey fresh-water pearl shawl pin made by Fancy That – Creations by Francine. She finished it and had it blocked in time for me to use as a sample at the Ottawa Knitting Guild’s vendors night on October 15th (thank you, Mom). To get a shawl of this size, she knit 5 repeats of Chart B (main chart) before moving on to Chart C (the edging chart). I think that it turned out beautiful especially since she is fairly new to lace...

BFL DK

BFL DK

I recently dyed and added seven skeins of BFL DK (100% superwash Blue-Faced Leicester wool) to my online store. There are 2 skeins of Scarlet Dreams (top row), 2 skeins of Irish Spring (middle row) and 3 skeins of Velvet Underground (bottom row). Thanks to my friends Sarah and Mara for coming up with the colourway name Velvet Underground. I also split two skeins in half and dyed each half a contrasting colourway for use in a small two colour fair isle project. One set contains Soot & Rust and the other is Shamrock & In the Shadows. I dyed up a set of Soot & Rust for myself before Christmas to knit up a pair of Dragon Paws mittens for a friend’s husband. I had been knitting a pair of Dragon Paws mittens for a different friend’s birthday when I visited them in June and he had commented on how cool he thought the mittens were. I’m told by my friend that he loves the mittens and that he has wore them constantly since he received them. This pattern is for women’s mittens and calls for fingering weight yarn so in order to upsize the mittens to fit a man, I simply changed the yarn to a DK weight and my needle sizes to a 3.0 mm and 3.5 mm. On a completely different note, I have just created a Yvieknits Yarns Ravelry group. I hope that you will check it...
