Low in stock at the moment

I’m currently very low in my stock as The Loop in Halifax just bought all of my Select Lace, my fingering weight yarns, and my new Merino/Silk DK. These 71 skeins are on their way to Halifax and they should arrive on Wednesday, October 30 or Thursday, October 31st. I will be dyeing all week and I plan to get some more stock up very soon. I’m expecting a yarn order this week and hopefully my second order will arrive the following week. Today I added a few skeins of my Angel Lace yarn. I only recently got this yarn back in stock and it is the same base as the Angel Select Lace yarn but it is 1/3 thinner. It comes in 1200 m per 100 g skein and it is perfect for creating large delicate...

Shawl Challenge at my knitting guild

Shawl Challenge at my knitting guild

The challenge this year at the Ottawa Knitting Guild was for shawls. There were five categories: shawlette from a pattern, shawl from a pattern, shawlette adapted from a pattern, shawl adapted from a pattern and design your own shawl. I entered a shawlette and a shawl into the challenge and I was surprised and pleased to win second prize in the shawlette from a pattern category (red shawlette pictured below). For the shawl I made Madli’s Shawl from Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush using 1 skein of my Angel Select Lace in the Moss colourway. The only change I made from the pattern was to knit 33 repeats instead of 31 repeats of the center pattern. I only recently took pictures of this wrap in a friend’s garden while she modeled it for me and I promised to keep her out of the pictures as much as possible. For the shawlette I made the Chandelier Shawl from Shaping Shawls by Anna Dalvi using 1 skein of my Merino Single Ply Fingering in the Red Roses colourway. I knit the pattern with no changes. There were 40 entries into the shawl challenge and there is a photo album on the Ottawa Knitting Guild’s facebook page of each shawlette/shawl with the pattern and yarn used listed. I recommend looking at the photo album as there were a lot of beautifuls shawls entered into this...

Lavender Fields Shawl Kit

Lavender Fields Shawl Kit

My Mom bought this Lavender Fields Shawl Kit (picture on the right) from me in early June. The kit contained the Lavender Fields Shawl pattern by Natalie Servant, 1 skein of my BFL/Silk Select Lace in the Persian Violets colourway and 1 grey fresh-water pearl shawl pin made by Fancy That – Creations by Francine. She finished it and had it blocked in time for me to use as a sample at the Ottawa Knitting Guild’s vendors night on October 15th (thank you, Mom). To get a shawl of this size, she knit 5 repeats of Chart B (main chart) before moving on to Chart C (the edging chart). I think that it turned out beautiful especially since she is fairly new to lace...

My Childeric’s Bees

My Childeric’s Bees

I started my Childeric’s Bees shawl while I was in Halifax and I managed to finish and block it in time to display it as a sample in my booth at the Twist Fibre Festival in August. I knit my Bees shawl using my Yvieknits Merino Light Fingering in the Cosmopolitan colourway. I used approximately 440 m out of the 685 m in the skein to knit the shawl as written (14 bees) but I am a slightly tight knitter. Natalie’s patterns are always a joy to knit as they are well written and interesting. Natalie includes charts and written instruction in all her patterns plus information about how to customize the size of the shawl and about using different yarn weights. I just added a Childeric’s Bees shawl kit to my website in the kits section which contains the pattern, 1 skein of Yvieknits Yarn Merino Light Fingering in the Marmalade colourway, and 1 copper S-shaped shawl pin. I will be adding two skeins of the Merino Light Fingering in the Cosmopolitan colourway to my website shortly (skeins are currently...
