Silk Hankies, A New Colourway, and Other News

I started dyeing up silk hankies (matawa) in January and recently added them for sale to my website. Matawa are 100 % silk hankies with dozens of layers in each hankie. Each layer can be spun one at a time or can be drafted (stretched) and knitted directly. There are several silk hankies in each 1 oz (28 g) package. I have also created a few 1/2 oz (14 g) packages to enable people to give this a try with only a small investment. A few weeks ago, I created a new colourway, Lulu’s Folly, at the request of my friend, Michelle. A mutual friend, Louise (Lulu), got several bright streaks added to her hair and Michelle wanted me to use Louise’s new colourful hair as the inspiration for the colourway. Here’s a picture of Louise holding the skeins that she bought in this new colourway. I think that it turned out quite well and matches her hair. I will be a vendor at The Gathering in Port Hope, Ontario on Saturday, May 3. This will be my third year attending this event and I’m looking forward to it. I have also recently booked a booth at the Twist Fibre Festival in August, and a table at the Wolfe Island Fibre Festival in September. My friend, Francine of Fancy That – Creations by Francine, will be attending this events with me. You can find a complete list of events that I am attending on my event page. I place all announcements on the Yvieknits Yarns Facebook page and in my Yvieknits Yarns group in...

Chesterville Spin-In

Chesterville Spin-In

On Wednesday, February 12th, I went to the 15th annual Chesterville Spin-In with Francine of Fancy That – Creations by Francine. This was my first time attending this event, but Francine had attended this event as a vendor for the last two years. As our tables were beside each other, we pushed our two tables together and did a combined table as we often do. I tried to take a picture of our whole combined table but I realized when I reviewed my pictures at home that I didn’t get far enough away from our table to include all of Francine’s section in any of the pictures. It was a beautiful day and 67 people attended this event from all over. Many people brought their spinning wheels with them and spent a good part of the day spinning and enjoying themselves in general. There were several other vendors there. Sheeps Ahoy had the table beside us so we were able to hang out with Debbie Wilson, the owner, all day. My biggest seller at the Spin-In was my hand-dyed silk hankies. The basket shown in the picture above was full when I arrived, but as you can see, that I sold half of my stock. Francine suggested that I start dyeing the silk hankies as she plans to teach some workshops on knitting directly from the silk hankies without spinning it first. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. We had a great time and are looking forward to coming back again next...
